National Youth Monologues 2026 Launches to Give Every Young Actor a Voice
The National Youth Monologues 2026 is now open for entries. Building on the success of its inaugural year to offer young people aged 9 to 19 from across the UK the opportunity to perform, develop their craft, and be seen on a national stage — regardless of background or financial circumstance.
In its first year, the competition attracted over 1,000 entries from young performers nationwide, with participants entering through schools, youth theatres, drama clubs, and independently. The final, hosted at The Ambassadors Theatre in the West End, brought together outstanding young actors from every region of the UK, demonstrating both the depth of emerging talent and the appetite for accessible, high-quality performance opportunities for young people.
Supported by the Ambassador Theatre Group, the world’s largest live theatre company, Methuen Drama, and the Federation of Drama Schools, the National Youth Monologues was created to champion young talent and remove barriers to participation in the performing arts.
The competition invites young actors to perform a solo monologue in one or more of four categories — Contemporary, Classical, Screen, and Devised — across four age groups. Entrants can take part through their school, youth theatre or
drama club, or independently, ensuring access for young people in every corner of the country.
At its heart, the National Youth Monologues is committed to access and inclusion. Entry is free for any young person receiving Free School Meals, and travel bursaries are available for selected students who are chosen to perform at the Live National Final in London, helping to ensure that talent — not privilege — determines opportunity.
Finalists will be invited to perform live in London’s West End in front of industry professionals, with opportunities for development and national recognition.
Alongside the competition, schools and youth organisations can also access group entry passes and workshops, supporting students in developing performance skills essential for auditions, drama school applications, and professional work.
The National Youth Monologues is designed not only as a competition, but as a national platform for youth voice, creativity, and conffidence — celebrating solo performance and the next generation of UK acting talent.
The National Youth Monologues 2026 is open for entries with the window closing on April 5th 2026.
